LocalFamily ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your personal information. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use the LocalFamily mobile application and website (the "Service"), in accordance with Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and applicable Ontario privacy laws.
By using LocalFamily, you consent to the practices described in this Policy.
We collect information you provide directly, including:
We also automatically collect device information (device type, OS, app version), usage data (screens viewed, features used), and log data (IP address, access times, error reports).
We use your information to verify your identity as a building resident; enable transactions between verified neighbours; process wallet top-ups and peer-to-peer payments; send important notifications about your account, requests, and listings; improve the app and develop new features; respond to enquiries and provide support; prevent fraud and maintain community safety; and comply with legal obligations.
We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your information for advertising.
We share your information only in limited circumstances:
Your data is stored on secure servers in Canada and the United States (Supabase). We implement encryption in transit (TLS), encryption at rest, and strict access controls. While we take reasonable steps to protect your information, no transmission over the Internet is 100% secure.
We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide our services. You may request deletion of your account and data at any time by contacting privacy@localfamily.app. We process deletion requests within 30 days, except where retention is required by law.
You have the right to access the personal information we hold about you; request correction of inaccurate information; withdraw consent (which may affect your ability to use the Service); request deletion of your personal information; and file a complaint with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada. LocalFamily is not intended for persons under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from minors. If you believe we have done so inadvertently, contact us immediately.
We may send push notifications about account activity, new listings, and transaction updates. You can opt out of non-essential notifications in your device settings at any time.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes via the app or email. Continued use after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the LocalFamily mobile application and website (the "Service"). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, you must not use the Service.
You must be at least 18 years of age and a verified resident of a participating building to use LocalFamily.
You must create an account using your real name, mobile number, and building information. You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account and all activities that occur under it. You must notify us immediately if you suspect unauthorised access. We reserve the right to suspend accounts with inaccurate or misleading information.
LocalFamily provides a peer-to-peer platform for verified residents to list, borrow, rent, and share items, spaces, and services. LocalFamily is a platform provider β we are not a party to any transaction between residents. You are solely responsible for the accuracy of your listings; the condition and safety of items you list; completing transactions you have agreed to; resolving disputes with other residents; and complying with all applicable laws regarding your listings.
The LocalFamily wallet allows you to hold a balance for peer-to-peer transactions. Balances are topped up via Interac e-Transfer and used exclusively for transactions with other residents. Wallet balances are non-interest-bearing. Balances may be withdrawn upon request, subject to verification. LocalFamily is not a bank or financial institution. We reserve the right to hold or freeze balances in cases of suspected fraud or policy violation.
You agree not to use LocalFamily to list or transact in illegal items or services; harass, threaten, or harm other residents; post false or fraudulent listings; impersonate another person or resident; violate your building's rules or lease agreement; sublet residential rights without proper authorisation; conduct transactions outside the app to circumvent our policies; or attempt to gain unauthorised access to any part of the Service.
Reviews must be honest, accurate, and based on your actual experience. We reserve the right to remove reviews that violate our policies.
The LocalFamily name, logo, app design, and all associated content are the intellectual property of LocalFamily and may not be used without written permission. By posting content on LocalFamily, you grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to display that content within the Service.
LocalFamily is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. We do not guarantee the accuracy of listings, the conduct of residents, or the outcome of any transaction. We are not responsible for items damaged, lost, or stolen during a transaction between residents.
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, LocalFamily shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the Service or from any transaction between residents. Our total liability shall not exceed fees paid by you to LocalFamily in the 12 months preceding the claim.
You agree to indemnify and hold LocalFamily and its officers, directors, employees, and agents harmless from any claims, damages, or expenses arising from your use of the Service, your listings, your transactions, or your violation of these Terms.
We may suspend or terminate your account at any time for conduct that violates these Terms or is harmful to other residents. You may terminate your account by contacting hello@localfamily.app.
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada applicable therein. Disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Ontario.
We will notify you of material changes via the app or email at least 14 days before they take effect. Continued use after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.
